Protest Over Bus Fare Increases Happening All Over Brazil – Protesta Em Brasil
Tonight it’s very difficult for many workers to get home, because protest are occurring all over Brazil. Protests are occurring in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Brasilia and in many other Brazilian cities.
Any increases that
are planned to occur, are really breaking the backs
of many ordinary consumers. The planned bus fare increase is one of only R$.10, but
when viewed over the course of 10 years those increases have occurred at a level of 300%
In a country
that is about to host the 2014 World Cup
and the 2016 Olympic Games
, ordinary citizens cannot understand the point of raising fairs. What the country will have to pay in terms of debt to host these events does not make sense for many citizens who cannot sustain the increases that have occurred in many sectors of the country.
Inflationary pressures in the country have really risen out of control, and basic needs
are no longer possible to acquire without major costs. The level of rising inflationary pressures, it is quite possible that the major events that are planned to take place, may have a very difficult time acquiring many visitors because of the rising cost of basic needs and services.
“The marches, organized mostly through snowballing social media campaigns, blocked streets and halted traffic in more than a half-dozen cities, including Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Brasilia, where demonstrators swarmed past the Congress and Presidential Palace.
While peaceful, and unfolding mostly as a festive display of dissent, Monday’s demonstrations were the latest in a flurry of protests over the past two weeks that have added to unease over Brazil’s sluggish economy, high inflation and a spurt in violent crime.” Currently, some fires are present in the City of Rio, but these were set by a few small group of people, and do not represent the majority of people that are holding peaceful protest!
